Description
Interior of a family apartment in a Stalin-era building in Irkutsk: careful restoration, high ceilings, moldings and portals are paired with a contemporary layout. The project is a subtle dialogue between historic architecture and modern living.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
СРОК РЕАЛИЗАЦИИ: 1 год
The apartment is located in the center of Irkutsk, within a four-story brick building constructed in 1956. The main objective was to delicately integrate the functional needs of a modern family into the building’s authentic historical framework.

The restoration of original wooden window frames, carried out in accordance with facade regulations, became the conceptual starting point for the entire project.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The generous ceiling height of the ceremonial “Stalinka” is emphasized to enhance the perception of space and volume. The transition into the living room is articulated through a portal, bringing order and visually expanding the interior. Refined moldings enrich the spatial geometry, creating a nuanced interplay of light and shadow while reinforcing the building’s historical identity. Window openings are outlined with profiles, giving them a more expressive character, while the deep windowsills are treated as full architectural elements.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A carefully considered layout allows the apartment to accommodate a spacious kitchen with a dining area, a large living room with a compact and cozy library zone, and two private bedrooms for each member of the family.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The color palette is built around a conceptual pairing — “Anti-Soviet White” and “Old-School Blue.”

“Anti-Soviet White” is a nuanced, warm-toned shade used across walls and ceilings. It moves away from sterile neutrality, creating a soft yet deep sense of light and spatial depth.

“Old-School Blue” is a rich, slightly muted tone referencing Soviet school uniforms and the pre-revolutionary heritage of Irkutsk. Used as an accent, it introduces depth and a layer of intellectual nostalgia to the interior.

The interior is deliberately composed as a balance between contemporary design and vintage elements. Each piece — from furniture to finishes — is carefully selected to create a cohesive and personal environment aligned with the clients’ identity.

Rather than a stylistic imitation, the project unfolds as a thoughtful dialogue between the history of the place, architectural memory, and the modern lifestyle of a specific family.
